Antes de la prueba existían ciertas dudas para los entendidos de qué es lo que podría hacer Leitone en pista de pasto. No así para el público, que lo hizo favorito.
Su campaña como mejor macho en la arena palmeña, tras la espectacular Wow Cat, reina de la generación en el Hipódromo Chile, más un apronte realizado en el Club Hípico de Santiago hace algunas semana, le otorgaron al defensor del stud Ferro el favoritismo, aunque a $ 4.40, lo que habla de lo abierta que se tornó la edición número 133 de la gran carrera. Y junto a Penn Rose, la segunda más jugada del clásico, no decepcionaron, porque fueron primero y segunda tras los 2.400 metros. La verdad es que como corrió Leitone pareció que dominaba a voluntad la superficie de grama. No sufrió o no mostró ninguna incomodidad ante el pasto, viniendo desde el vamos encima y ganando la punta a mitad de la recta opuesta. Tras esto, se agigantó el colorado, y bajo la experta conducción de Héctor Isaac Berríos, creció a medida que se acercaba la meta. Berríos supo dosificarlo de gran forma, ya que ante la arremetida en los metros finales de Penn Rose, aún mantenía fuerzas como para neutralizar el avance de la ganadora de Las Oaks y marcar un cuerpo un cuarto de ventaja al cruzar la meta. Y luego de aquello, la alegría fue total en el equipo del abanderado del stud Ferro, que tiene como dueños a un triunvirato que conforman el medallista olímpico, Fernando González, Roberto San Miguel y el periodista Ariel Gómez. Su formador, John Pinochet se mostró muy feliz, ya que a los cuatro vientos señalaba que era primera vez que corría la gran carrera y con qué resultado. |
