War Breeze (War Command – Haras Taomina) logró su consagración al vencer en el G1 El Derby (2.400m pasto) en Valparaíso Sporting. Con Gonzalo Ulloa derrotó por 1 3/4 cuerpo a Savitar (Daddy Long Legs) en 2:26.01. Master Piece y el favorito Gran Greco completaron la superfecta.
Juan Pablo Baeza entrena al defensor del stud Identic, cuyo propietario y criador José Hurtado vive un momento de ensueño tras triunfar en el G1 El Ensayo 2019 con el exportado Look Pen. Ahora el próximo desafío de War Breeze será el G1 G.P. Latinoamericano del 14 de marzo en San Isidro, Argentina.
Gonzalo Ulloa es el único jinete que ha ganado el G.P. Latinoamericano para Chile en el exterior. Fue en 2012 cuando clavó la bandera con Quick Casablanca en Argentina. Aquel 10 de marzo dejó con los nervios de punta al trainer Juan Pablo Baeza, ya que llegó atrasado al Hipódromo de Palermo y estuvo a punto de ser reemplazado. «Estuve relajado en la mañana y sólo llegué a correr. Pensé que quedaba más cerca el hipódromo, sabía que ganaríamos» dijo entre risas hace ocho años.
Tras ganar el G1 El Derby con War Breeze y clasificar para el Latino del 14 de marzo en Buenos Aires, el jockey eficiencia recordó la anécdota: «Ahora vamos a llegar temprano (risas). Hay que mandarlo desde la salida o si no él hace lo que quiere contigo. Gracias por el cariño» exclamó a #Vamosalahípica mientras era vitoreado por el público del Valparaíso Sporting.
